DDoS Attackers Put Environmental Services Firms in Their Crosshairs

Researchers at Cloudflare reported a massive 61,839% YoY increase in DDoS attacks on environmental services websites during Q4 2023. This increase coincides with the UN’s COP28 climate conference and similar surges were seen during COP26 and COP27. The rise in attacks may be linked to high-profile environmental events, highlighting a growing intersection between environmental issues and cybersecurity. Other significant trends include the usage of DDoS attacks in political or military conflicts, with increased activity seen during Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and Hamas’ attack on Israel.
