The International Data Sanitization Consortium (IDSC) is urging IT professionals to take data sanitization more seriously. A recent survey revealed that 64% of IT professionals do not understand the correct definition of data sanitization. The IDSC aims to bring clarity to the term, as well as providing education and guidance on best practices for data sanitization. The group emphasizes the importance of permanently and irreversibly removing old data, and outlines physical destruction, cryptographic erasure, and data erasure as the three ways to achieve true data sanitization.
