Data encryption will ‘victimize’ tech vendors, FBI Director James Comey says

FBI Director James Comey plans to engage the public in a discussion about the tension between electronic privacy and national security. He believes that Americans should have a reasonable expectation of privacy, but that it is not an absolute right. The issue of default encryption settings in smartphones is of particular concern, as it limits the FBI’s ability to investigate cases. Comey also called for greater communication and collaboration between the government and technology vendors.
