In 2022, health records of approximately 50 million Americans were exposed due to data breaches, according to cybersecurity firm Critical Insight. Despite the decrease in occurrence from 711 in 2021 to 658 in 2022, the number of people affected has risen, with 28.5 million affected by breaches in the second half of 2022, a 35% increase from those impacted in the first half. Network servers accounted for 90% of the records breached while cybersecurity negligence involving third-party vendors also contributed to the breaches.
