Health NZ has warned staff they have been victims of a data breach that exposed their sensitive health information after a “malicious actor” accessed their systems. The breach occurred in October 2024, affecting staff in the lower North Island. Although no evidence suggests the stolen data has been posted or shared online, Health NZ is reportedly investigating the sophisticated cyber attack. Fiona McCarthy, interim chief human resources officer, stated the incident did not affect patient data.
