The number of elective care waits over 65 weeks in England’s NHS rose by almost 13,000 in August, marking the biggest increase in over two years. The increase is a setback to NHS England’s plan to clear this backlog by March 2023. At the same time, waiting lists for community services have crossed 1 million, and emergency care performance has worsened significantly.
