Dads Drive Growth in California’s Paid Family Leave Program

More new dads are taking advantage of paid family leave to bond with their newborns, a trend that has grown in California, where men filed 44% of bonding claims in the last year. The shift in attitudes reportedly improved during the pandemic, as many fathers worked remotely. Research also suggests that when fathers take leave, the health outcomes for mothers improve. Despite this, there are still disparities nationwide in terms of paid leave availability and attitudes towards men taking leave.
