A Vanderbilt University researcher has suggested a new tactic for detecting inappropriate access to medical data in order to improve information security. The focus should move from the count of accesses to the context of the access, as well as taking into account the timing eccentricities of healthcare. In addition, security approaches need to incorporate the clinical context surrounding an access to accurately differentiate between appropriate and inappropriate access.
