Cybersecurity concerns spark online shopping warning

Shoppers buying from overseas retailers and smaller companies risk having their personal data sold off or used for cyberattacks, warns Damien Manuel, Chair of the Australian Information Security Association. Products connected to the internet, including smart speakers and toys, also pose a security threat. Eight percent of people were targeted by scams during online shopping, according to a research by the Australian Institute of Criminology. It’s advised to shop from trusted retailers and use third-party paying platforms for protection.
