Cyberattacks targeting medical organizations up 32% in 2024

Medical sector malware grew by 32% in 2023 and 2024, making healthcare the third most common target for ransomware after manufacturing and technical services, according to a Black Kite report. Smaller, less protected healthcare organizations are prime targets, due to the urgency of their need to maintain life-saving operations. Newer ransomware operators have no qualms attacking them, the report noted, which is driving the increase in attacks.
