Hello, mate! I hope you are well. Pull up a stool; today we have a bit of a corporate scandal on our hands that I think you’ll find intriguing. Have you heard of a corporation called Cencora? They’re one of those big multinational pharmaceutical companies making an awful lot of money. Well, they’ve got an issue that falls squarely in the intersection of healthcare and cybersecurity. Intriguing, innit?
It all came to a head not too long ago, on the 21st of February to be precise. Cencora has gone on record to say they realised that some good-for-nothing ruffians had lifted data from their networks. Think about all the important and confidential information a company like Cencora must have. Patient information, research data, the price of tea in China – the list is endless. The miscreants had a field day!
The company didn’t just sit around twiddling their thumbs, though. They jumped into action as soon as they realised what had happened. Containment steps were taken, an investigation was launched, and they even got the authorities and cybersecurity experts involved. I say, it sounds like something out of a thriller movie, doesn’t it?
Fortunately for Cencora, it’s not all doom and gloom. They’ve reported that their operations haven’t suffered any notable impact as of yet. Their information systems are still ticking along like Swiss watches. Future financial impacts, however, remain a question mark for them. They’re still trying to figure that out.
Now, I’m not saying it’s related, but here’s a piece of the story that tickled my curiosity. The same company, Cencora, used to go by the name of AmerisourceBergen, in case you weren’t aware. And would you believe it, a year ago they had another issue on their hands, which was all very hush-hush.
It all came out in January the previous year, when a ransomware attack was claimed by a group boasting the name Lorenz. Charming lot, by the sound of it! The odd thing was, it seemed to affect a company with the comforting name of ‘MWI Animal Health’. Now, no one can say whether these two incidents are related in any way, but it certainly does make one wonder, right?
Mind you, I’m not the only one trying to put these pieces together. DataBreaches – a reliable source in these matters – has made attempts to get in touch with Cencora to ask some very hard questions. However, as of last check, there’s been nothing but radio silence from their end. Silent as a church mouse, they are.
So, there you have it, mate! An unforeseen drama in the pharmaceutical industry; a curious blend of healthcare and cybersecurity. It’s a brave new world we live in, isn’t it?
