The Internet Archive, a web page repository, was taken offline after a major cyberattack which affected millions of users and left the site defaced. The founder, Brewster Kahle, said a series of DDoS attacks had disrupted the site since Tuesday and a system upgrade was underway. A group called SN_BLACKMETA claimed responsibility for the attack, which is a blow to fact-checkers who use the Archive to trace deleted web pages and ensure cited evidence is permanently available.
