Cyberattack affecting school boards across Canada may involve decades of data. What can families do?

PowerSchool, a platform used by Canadian school boards for managing student data, suffered a data breach in late December. Experts speculate that information dating back decades may have been compromised. Records of 1.49 million students of Toronto District School Board from 1985-2024 were potentially affected. Social insurance numbers of school staff, and student details such as ID numbers, contact and medical information could have been accessed. The company assured the data copied in the breach was deleted and wasn’t found online.
