The US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) unveiled a four-step framework to boost cybersecurity in healthcare, following a 93% increase in large data breaches from 2018 to 2022. The proposed measures include creating voluntary cybersecurity goals, securing Congress funding, incorporating cybersecurity goals into new rules and regulations, and enhancing the “one-stop-shop” for healthcare cybersecurity. HHS may update HIPAA regulations to address cybersecurity concerns as early as Spring 2024.
