Cyber predators target vulnerable victims: Hackers blackmail hospitals, trade patient data and find partners through darknet ads

According to Check Point Research, cyberattacks on healthcare organisations increased globally by 32% between January and September 2024, with the average weekly attacks per organization reaching 2,018. The APAC region saw the largest number of attacks, with a 54% increase. Latin America saw a 34% surge, Europe a 56% jump, while North America had a 20% hike. Vulnerabilities due to digital transformation, weak cyber infrastructure and rich patient data made the sector an attractive target for attackers.
