Cyber liability insurance vs. data breach insurance: What’s the difference?

Cybersecurity threats are increasing, pushing companies to look for technical and financial protection. With an average US data breach costing $9.44 million, cybersecurity insurance has become more valuable for businesses. However, insurance is not guaranteed, especially if a company lacks proof of strong cybersecurity measures. Cyber liability insurance (covering third-party claims) and data breach insurance (mainly covering first-party losses) are both available—although sometimes confused. The global cyber insurance industry, which was valued at $13.33 billion in 2022, is expected to grow to reach $84.62 billion by 2030.
