The founding CEO of the UK’s National Cyber Security Centre, Ciaran Martin, has advised against panic after a ransomware group posted thousands of patient records from a Scottish health board on the dark web. Despite the severity of the situation, Martin highlighted that such data breaches rarely result in “actual harm”. Efforts are currently underway to identify affected individuals, and extra insurance has been offered to the board’s 5,000 staff for protection against identity theft or fraud.
