The healthcare sector is increasingly targeted by cyber attacks, posing a risk to patient safety and catalyzing the creation of new cyber security standards. Between January and September last year, the sector suffered more attacks (241) than any other. The upsurge has coerced technology providers to offer better secured technologies, and governments in the UK and US have announced strategies for enhancing cyber security within healthcare. Apart from government involvement, the application of international security standards and stringent punishment for cybercriminals could help alleviate the menace.
