Florida-based medical imaging firm Akumin has been hit with a ransomware attack, compromising patients’ health information and disrupting its services. Akumin, predominantly a provider of outpatient diagnostic imaging, noticed suspicious activity on its systems on October 11 and temporarily suspended operations. Despite this, patient scans and doctors’ images for diagnosis are currently unavailable. The company also confirmed personal data, including Protected Health Information, may have been accessed in the attack. Akumin is a key service provider for about 1,000 hospitals and health systems across 48 states.
