Consumers wrongly attribute all data breaches to cybercriminals

Data breaches in 2024 had less impact on consumers’ trust than in 2023, with most consumers attributing cybersecurity incidents to external threats rather than insider risks, reports Vercara. In a survey, 70% said they stop shopping with brands post security incidents. While Gen Z is generally unfazed by such events, Baby Boomers tend to change shopping habits. The study recommends proactive measures from organizations and education for consumers to minimize data breach risks.
