Consolidation blamed for Change Healthcare ransomware attack

A ransomware attack on Change Healthcare by the BlackCat/ALPHV group has led to calls for baseline security standards for healthcare providers. The attack on the US’s largest clearing house for medical claims disrupted services nationwide. UnitedHealth Group faced criticism for its response. Unverified reports suggest that Change Healthcare paid a $22m ransom. The RansomHub group has since claimed to have stolen data from Change Healthcare. There is now an investigation into whether there was a breach of protected health information.
