Complex Genetic Switches Aid Eukaryotic Production Systems

Scientists at Japan’s Ehime University have created on-riboswitches that increase the value of eukaryotic protein production systems, and potentially reduce costs by increasing protein production. The goal is to programme cell-free systems and artificial cells to take on or exceed the functions of natural cells. The study’s operators said the technology could be of interest to biopharmaceutical manufacturers.
