Company Says Change Healthcare Hackers Stole Sensitive Data

UnitedHealth Group has admitted that a ransomware attack on subsidiary Change Healthcare in February breached sensitive health information. The company has not yet determined the amount of impacted data but is committed to notifying those affected. The breach admission triggers a regulatory countdown for public disclosures and individual notification. Change Healthcare acts as an intermediary between caregivers and insurers, processing sensitive information for claims settlements. UnitedHealth says it will bear the potentially costly burden to notify millions of individuals affected by the breach.
