The Weeneebayko Area Health Authority (WAHA) serves six indigenous communities in northern Ontario, Canada, including Moose Factory Island, which struggles with a serious lack of doctors. Despite offering an attractive employment package, WAHA has been unable to attract and retain enough permanent doctors due to Moose Factory’s remote location and lack of amenities. In response, WAHA is partnering with Queen’s University to open a satellite campus for Indigenous medical students in 2023, aiming to improve local healthcare access.
