CMS shuts down access to Blue Button 2.0 temporarily due to security glitch

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has disabled access to its Blue Button 2.0 production environment after a bug in its code base was discovered. The bug could potentially expose protected health information of some patients. CMS is contacting affected beneficiaries and developers and plans to offer necessary protections, such as credit monitoring. The issue only affects Blue Button 2.0, not other systems. CMS is investigating the root cause of the bug and implementing measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
