AI improves clinicians’ diagnostic accuracy, but biased models can worsen the outcomes, according to a study published in JAMA. The study highlights that explaining a technology’s logic does not help mitigate errors. Increase in diagnostic accuracy was observed only with standard AI models, but biased models decreased accuracy, even with explanations in place. Improving clinicians’ AI literacy could be key in preventing biased recommendations.
