Chinese hackers spend years roaming telecommunications service

A Chinese advanced persistent threat (APT) group secretly accessed the networks of an Asian telecom company for multiple years unnoticed, according to security firm Sygnia. The actor, known as “Weaver Ant”, used a piece of malware called China Chopper to evade detection and carry out espionage. The US Federal Communications Commission is launching enforcement efforts to identify and prosecute firms suspected of aiding Chinese government espionage.
