Healthcare IT giant Epic is still poring over the 2,000 pages of federal rules on interoperability and information blocking recently released by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology. Earlier this year, Epic expressed major concerns about the proposed rules, but has yet to comment on the final version. In contrast, Cerner has issued an open letter offering “ardent support” for the provisions. Epic is particularly concerned about the impact on standards, hospitals, implementation timelines, and patient transparency.
