Researchers from St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital have demonstrated that adding a modular chimeric cytokine receptor to chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cells increased their efficacy in several solid tumour models. While immunotherapy with modified CAR T cells has previously improved survival rates for paediatric patients with relapsed and recurrent leukaemia, they were less effective at treating solid tumours.
