Cancer Treatment Approach Targets Resistance, Gene Drive Style

A team of researchers at Penn State has developed a gene-based approach to killing resistant cancer cells. The scientists created a modular genetic circuit that turns cancer cells into a “Trojan horse”, causing them to self-destruct and kill nearby drug-resistant cells. The approach was tested on human cell lines and in mice with success. The researchers have filed a provisional patent application for the technology.
