Caesars Entertainment breached in social engineering attack

Caesars Entertainment and MGM Resorts have both recently suffered data breaches. The cause of the breaches was social engineering attacks that began in early September. Crucial customer data including social security numbers and driver’s license information was stolen. The full extent of the theft is still being investigated. There is a suspicion that Caesars paid a multi-million dollar ransom to recover the stolen data. Both companies have implemented measures to prevent future cyberattacks.
