Australia’s e-prescription firm MediSecure suffered a ransomware attack compromising health and personal data of individuals. Cybersecurity Coordinator Michelle McGuinness is working with other agencies on a holistic government response. While an investigation is underway, no threat actor has claimed responsibility. The issue arose initially from one of MediSecure’s third-party vendors. Notably, healthcare providers are considered softer targets due to their prioritisation of service over security.
