McAfee researchers have found a malware called ‘Xamalicious’ on the Google Play Store posing a threat to Android devices. Crafted within a Xamarin open-source framework, the malware infiltrated roughly 327,000 devices through seemingly harmless apps. The malware uses social engineering to gain accessibility, eventually taking full control of the device and conducting unauthorised activities, including installing apps and clicking ads without user consent. Three compromised apps had over 100,000 installations each before their removal.
