Beware, that Social Security email could be hiding dangerous malware

Cybersecurity experts from Cofense have found multiple phishing emails pretending to be the US Social Security Administration ahead of the 2024 US presidential elections. The emails aim to install a Remote Access Trojan (RAT) malware on recipients’ devices. The hackers exploited a legitimate software tool, ConnectWise, using it to break into victims’ systems, steal data and spread further malware. The campaign began around mid-September 2024, with email frequency rising shortly before the election.
