Bengaluru city residents lost over Rs 1.71 crore daily due to different types of cybercrimes in a span of nine months, data from Bengaluru city police showed. More than 12,600 cybercrime cases were reported, leading to a total loss exceeding Rs 470 crore. The most common crimes were online job fraud and debit/credit card fraud. Though the police managed to recover and return portions of the lost sum, police commissioner B Dayananda emphasised the need for public awareness to prevent such crimes.
