Australia Sues FIIG Investment Firm in Cyber ‘Wake-Up Call’

The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) has sued FIIG Securities, a leading investment and financing company, over a lack of cybersecurity controls that enabled the theft of 18,000 customers’ confidential information in a 2023 data breach. Over a four-year period, FIIG had not adequately configured firewalls, failed to update software and systems, did not provide cybersecurity training and lacked the resources to manage cybersecurity, ASIC alleges.
