Australia Sanctions LockBit Honcho to Cut Off Cash

Law enforcement officials in the US, Europe, and Australia have identified Dmitry Yuryevich Khoroshev as the leader behind the notorious “LockBit” ransomware group. Khoroshev, a Russian national, is believed to have made at least $100m from the gang’s activities. He will now face sanctions in all three regions, potentially leading to fines for companies that attempt to pay ransom demands. Australian authorities indicate that this action may help disrupt the ransomware business model.
