US healthcare organization Ascension has been hit by a cyberattack, disrupting clinical operations and leading to systems going offline. In response to “unusual activity”, the non-profit healthcare system, which operates in 19 plus states and oversees 140 hospitals, initiated an investigation and enlisted incident response experts. The disruption has affected patient care, with accounts of chaos and the need to revert to paper records, and has raised fears over the security of personal medical data.
