Ascension health care cyberattack exposed data of 5.6 million people

The ransomware attack on US health system Ascension affected approximately 5.6 million people, a significant increase from the 500 initially reported. Occurring in May 2021, the incident caused widespread disruption to patient care for more than a month. The breach, not detected until the healthcare providers had lost access to patient records, compromised personal and payment information, medical data, government identification, insurance details and more.
