As quantum computing threats loom, Microsoft updates its core crypto library

Microsoft has updated its SymCrypt cryptographic library to include two encryption algorithms designed to resist quantum computer attacks. Known as ML-KEM and XMSS, their incorporation is the first step in a broad overhaul of encryption protocols. As quantum computing advances, so does the threat to algorithms such as RSA and Diffie-Hellman, which have been considered almost uncrackable. Plans are in place to add further post-quantum algorithms to SymCrypt in the coming months.
