As connected health adoption grows, privacy rules like HIPAA are still broadly misunderstood

Connected technology and the Internet of Health Things have become even more important during the current crisis. However, concerns about privacy and security are holding back some providers and consumers. HIPAA was created to protect data between health insurers and providers, leaving data outside of this ecosystem unprotected. Other regulations such as GDPR and the California Consumer Privacy Act can also impact the privacy of health data. Organizations should obtain explicit permission from users and prioritize privacy to ensure compliance.
