As Change Healthcare’s outage drags on, fears grow that patient data could spill online

US health technology company Change Healthcare, which is owned by UnitedHealth Group, experienced a disruptive cyberattack. The assault ceased operations of many US healthcare services, with hospitals being unable to verify patient insurance benefits and pharmacies forced to act without access to health insurance records. While UnitedHealth has said the company has made “substantial progress” in rectifying the situation, there are concerns that the hackers may have absconded with masses of patient data.
