Are health systems ready for 26M cancer survivors?

With the number of cancer survivors in the US expected to reach 26 million by 2040, healthcare systems are struggling to adapt to this growing population’s needs. Despite improvements in screening and treatment, many survivors face ongoing physical and psychological needs. The complexities of survivorship care led to the American College of Surgeons incorporating survivorship care as an accreditation requirement in 2015. However, there is a lack of standardised care model, robust reimbursement mechanisms, and clear communication among healthcare providers.
