Apple couldn’t tell fake iPhones from real ones, lost $2.5M to scammers

Two men who tricked Apple into replacing 6,000 counterfeit iPhones with genuine ones have been sent to prison in the US. Haotian Sun and Pengfei Xue managed to defraud Apple of about $2.5m between 2017 and 2019. Now Sun and Xue have been sentenced to 57 months and 54 months respectively, and also ordered to pay restitution of over $1.3m to Apple.
