Apple-backed data breach report says 2.6 billion records leaked in 2 years

Apple, in a commissioned data breach report, reveals that hackers stole 2.6 billion records between 2021 and 2022, with breaches surging 20% in the first three quarters of 2023 compared to 2022. It attributed the problem to takeoff in sophisticated ransomware attacks and third-party vendor attacks. The study highlighted the growing importance of cloud security, noting that 80% of breaches involved data stored in the cloud. It also advocated for more efforts to encrypt data held in the cloud.
