Antarctica Has Lost 7.5tn Tonnes of Ice Since 1997, Scientists Find

Antarctica has lost over 40% of its ice shelves since 1997, with almost half showing no signs of recovery due to climate change, a study by the University of Leeds has found. The study identified a net ice loss of 7.5tn tonnes between 1997 and 2021, attributing this to warming waters around west Antarctica, while east Antarctica has remained colder and more stable.
