A spyware application named ‘BMI CalculationVsn’ masquerading as a BMI calculator tool was discovered on the Amazon Appstore by McAfee Labs researchers. The manipulative app retrieved installed apps and intercepted SMS messages on infected devices. Despite removal from the store, users who had installed the app were required to manually eliminate it. Google Play Protect is recommended for blocking known malware.
