An Expert Weighs in on the Proposed Removal of Limits on HIPAA Fines

Proposed legislation in the US aims to strengthen healthcare cybersecurity and muster more accountability. The Health Infrastructure Security and Accountability Act intends to financially penalize those failing to protect patient data and to patch gaps in existing laws. Business associates, as well as covered bodies, are included in the Act. However, while this could potentially alleviate the risk of cyberattacks, smaller organizations could find it difficult to comply with the regulations.
