Americans With Dementia Are Grieving Social Media

After decades of using Photoshop and uploading collages of photos taken on nighttime walks in London to Flickr and Instagram, a man began attracting a following and forming social connections online. However, dementia made his iPad and apps like Instagram and Photoshop incomprehensible to him. Alzheimer’s and dementia can make simple tasks confusing and memory fleeting, posing a particular challenge for a patient’s social connections. The digital disruption caused by dementia often brings the most angst for patients. As social media evolves constantly, dementia patients struggle to keep up. Overall, social media companies have not yet found good solutions for users with dementia.
