AMA calls for “independent umpire” on private health system

The Australian Medical Association (AMA) is urging for an independent Private Health System Authority to provide oversight of reforms and ensure the system addresses community needs. The AMA also suggested a mandated minimum payout by insurers of 90% as a proportion of their premiums. The present proposal calls for regulatory reforms that promote consumer interests over shareholders.
